Fagaras Mountains Natura 2000 site / Romania: Virgin spruce forest in Sambata valley. Although the valley located in a Natura 200 site this outstanding pristine valley is not sufficiently protected yet... Only small parts of the valley have been mapped so far. Logging is proceeding. One 1/3 of the park's forests is included in the nature zone, the rest is just an industrial logging site. Logging is also impacting the untouched wilderness of Cernisoara virgin forest in the middle of the national park. Most of this wild landscape is not included into the natura zone of the national park. Logging in the area started only in 2017. Stat eforests Romsilva auctioned three forest parcels in the wild Radoteasa valley to be logged in 2019. In November 2018 IUCN visited the valley upon invitation by EuroNatur Foundation. The national park is also designated as UNESCO World Heritage site. But even in the buffer zone of the UNESCO site centuries years old trees are being chopped down.
